SFFL Season Canceled
COVID-19 Tackles SFFL Season
UpdatedFriday September 4, 2020 byLuke Philippas.
To all SFFL members,
Our league has been built on a simple premise, keep it all about our athletes. Make it fun, make it safe, make it the best football experience possible for the player. We keep this at the forefront of all that we do and all the decisions we make. This is why we are the best youth sports program anywhere.
Our delay in starting the season was a direct result of the ongoing safety guidelines set forth by the CT Department of Health. Delays in allowing contact not only slowed the start of our season but pushed back HS football as well. The DPH is not changing its stance on contact sports. For those of you not aware, the CIAC announced this morning they will not be holding 11 on 11 HS Football in 2020. This was in response to a letter from DPH yesterday that basically stated they were not changing their stance or recommendation regardless of the COVID metrics in the coming weeks. In addition, the City of Shelton informed us that we were to follow the CIAC with regards to contact within the context of football.
Despite our best efforts, the 2020 SFFL football season is just not meant to be. Reducing our league to something less than what it is, to just let kids run around, is not in line with our goal of providing each athlete the best football experience possible. This is why we are left with no choice but to cancel our 2020 football season. We wish the graduating players and their families, nothing but the best moving forward and hope to see them make their mark in HS sports next year and beyond as so many of our athletes have before.
Regarding your 2020 registrations for this year. We will be following the plan which has been communicated many times over. You have two choices available to you.
- Your account will be credited towards full registration for next season. No action required by you. Your registration is protected against any price increase for next season.
- You will be given a refund at 50% of your fee upon request. The deadline for this option is September 15. You must request a refund here should you choose option 2: Refund Request
Once again, we wish everyone all the best in this crazy year and look forward to 2021 being a year to celebrate.
